Most cysts are found by accident, usually when the owner is handling their dog or brushing their coat. Cysts usually do not grow bigger than the size of a pea, and appear as small, round structures inside the dog's skin.
Cause
Cysts can be present at birth or develop later in life.
Therapy
Cysts are usually benign. Provided they do not cause complaints, they may be left in place.
Emergency measures
A cyst should not be removed or burst by the owner, as this may lead to injury or infection of the skin. It is therefore best to closely monitor the affected area. If the cyst is grows in size, it should be examined by your veterinarian.
