When taking trips to areas of high tick infestation, it may be useful to vaccinate your dog against diseases transmitted by ticks (i.e. babesiosis or leptospirosis). These diseases are not vaccinated against in the normal annual booster shots your dog receives, and must be administered separately. Vaccinations normally include those against distemper, parvovirosis, rabies, and canine adenovirus. If you are considering a vacation into an area that has a high tick infestation, please consult your vet about the issue; sometimes a simple tick prophylaxis alone is sufficient, thus avoiding the possible side effects of a vaccination.
